Elsewhere I've detailed my shoe-carnival experience at FCO... Therefore idiots aren't only confined to the US.

With all due respect we probably don’t need another shoe thread in this Forum to join the other dozen that are active.
I’m therefore going to merge this into one of the other on-going threads. ____________________________ Cholula Travel Safety/Security Forum Moderator |

What stemmed from a years-ago incident has gone out of control. Where I have not been made to do the Shoe Fly Dance: australia france netherlands uk mexico canada Any other travelers have opinions about this? I blieve this is the TSA going AWOL again. Shoe Carnival, with nice cloggs to wear there. |
Being late arriving from Zurich into Munich and literally running from one terminal to another to catch our US Air flight to PHL, Mom (73 with a new hip) and me (45 F limping from a bad knee) had to take off our shoes at the gate for screening and had to do the 20 questions routine as we were panting........
JudyJFLA Of course it pales in comparison to the time I was down to my thermal underwear at the gate in Portland OR and they even went through my wallet, took out all my credit cards and cash! |

Why would they go through your wallet? We all know TSA screeners have a penchant for doing things they are not supposed to do, but can they legally go through your wallet? And down to your thermal underwear? No, no, no. Over in another forum a poster wrote that she had been held at security for 1 1/2 hours because she refused to let them do a "strip type search" on her. She apparently finally made her flight without the search. She didn't go to any further explanation. It just boggles the mind! |
Germany also had a shoe carnival in Frankfurt, but I'm not sure whose madness it is.
I got the full treatment before proceeding onto a flight there to IAD. However, I didn't get it the next day (got bumped) to ORD. So I wonder if it's just for DC bound destinations. Switzerland (ZRH) sent me thru with no harrassment. |
