Knives back on Airplanes

I traveled round trip on Continental last week and was given a real knife to cut my food. Did I miss something or have the rules changed?

I also got them in Dec on CO.

Way to go, CO. Thanks for realizing that knives are no more a threat to aircraft than the Boogeyman is. ^

My US-bound LH flight a couple of months ago had metal knives on the flight, thought that was just a European airline thing. I know UA still stays plastic (though that might have more to do with cost).

Thanks for the CO news. That sounds like things are being loosened, eventually these stupid eye candy things the TSA does, and probably the agency itself, will be dissolved.

We should be so lucky.

What's bad is while you guys are sitting in F cutting your steaks with real knives, I'm sitting in the breakroom hacking away at my pork chop with a plastic butter knife.

Real knives have been back on CO (at least in F) for almost 2 years now.

Gosh BA in F still has plastic.

But... you passed a background check!

Don't they trust you with a knife? ;)

Probably no more than a credit check and a felony check.

Well this all is utter bull****. People tend to forget that the true vulnerability was the attitude of staying low profile during a hostage taken. Sep. 11th changed that fundamentally. The knives were irrelevant, since a broken bottle would have worked as well.

On my most recent trip, I just got plastic knives but real forks and spoons (US domestic) on NW.

However, I'm finding it's more and more common to get real knives when traveling in FC these days or up in Business or First Class for an overseas journey.

The only exception seems to be flights to the UK -- plastic knives always, even in FC/BC. If I fly from the US to AMS (NL) or another country, it's always metal -- and has been for quite some time.

Yes that's true. This thing is that the English FAA (the CAA) has decided to prohibit it as well. So it's not only an American thing.

What all of you fail to realize that there is no danger in having knives on board airplanes -- only in bringing them on board.

To think otherwise is to deny the TSA's raison d'etre.

This would be catastrophic as the TSA is already severely lacking in raison.
