"It's a case of airport security that some say went way too far -- A Transportation Security Administration screener is accused of opening a sealed box and spilling the cremated remains of a San Diego woman's relative all over her suitcase.

Lisa Miller, who found her cousin's remains scattered among her belongings, is understandably upset, and after failing to get an apology, she's suing the TSA for damages."

I hope she wins big. This agency is running amok, with absolutely no accountability. :mad:

Another frivolous lawsuit. There are too many unknowns in this for her to win.
BTW the policy about cremains was in effect before this happened.

I hate to see taxpayer $ go to her, but if the judgement can be made against the responsible screener and his supervisor, then I'm all for it.

And if she has photos of the damaged urn, I don't see why there are too many "unknowns." Theiving baggage handlers would have no reason to try to force open a labeled urn of ashes, so the TSA can't use the bait-and-switch blame-the-airlines tactic for this one.

The article says that the cremains were in a box. The way that baggage is handled could have caused the box to split or the lid to fall off. Do you know how far a CTX machine "launches" bags? IT looks like a pitching machine throwing 40 lb bags several feet through the air. When I went to LAX the last time and they ran my bag through, I heard it launch. When I got home and unpacked, there was aspirin all over the clothes because the bottle had lost its lid during the "preflight" flight.
