New security announcement by the captain!
Did 3 segments today and all 3 had the SAME announcement.
This is your captain speaking...blah, blah, blah, and then this: AA initiated a new security feature. We ask, NO, we TELL YOU, to stay within your cabin. Did 2 MadDogs and 1 763. On the MDs, F was told to use the forward lav ONLY and Y was told to use the back lav ONLY. On the 763 the F/J section to use forward lavs, the middle Y to use the middle lavs and rows 20? (can't remember) and down to use the back lavs ONLY. What made it sound official was that it came from the cockpit, not the FAs. Anybody else heard this in the last few days? One of the captains said that this new security feature started on 9/1. It can't be just a coincidence, all 3 flights were the same. |

i flew on 9/1, and the captain that day gave the same announcement, saying it started "well, just today, actually".
|
Started on 9/1. And they've been consistent about making the announcement and enforcing it on all my flights.
|
Yes, I've heard the same on all flights since 9/1 as well.
Also the other day, I heard the flight attendant give a "reason" for not congregating around the galleys/lavs...they need to see down the entire length of the aisle at all times. Guess it makes sense, but when you're in 8A and you gotta go, you're not going to wait for everyone in the back of the plane to beat you to the lav! :D |
Don't forget that some a/c (IIRC, 738, S80, others?) have only one FC lav; if someone is in the FC lav and "won't come out," must the FC passenger wait indefinitely, prohibited from using one of the Y lavs?
It seems that the annoyingness of this rule goes both ways... |
IMHO, AA is way over the top on this security thing.
I have heard the new speech, and in fact, once the capytain said that it was an FAA directive, which I don't believe. I notice that the words being used are that passengers must stay in their ticketed cabins...or something like this... So, do those people on 500 mile upgrades or eVIPs have to use the toilets one class lower than they are ticketed since they technically are not ticketed for the cabin they sit in :D |
They do make the annoucement. It started Late August, but it has been more consistant lately. They have not been enforcing it, IME.

Announced on other Airlines??
OK, maybe since this is an AA forum we're a bit loyal, but has anyone heard it since 9-1 on other airlines? If it's an FAA mandate, that'd mean all. I've only flown AA since, but have a WN tomorrow ..... of course, there's only one class there...!! :D

The captain on AA74 from LAX-IAD this past Sunday evening mentioned that the no-Y-pax-in-F-lav rule is due not to AA policy or FAA mandate, but to "TSA regulations."
Puhleeze. |

It's a dumbass "regulation", regardless of who mandates it.
AA should tell the TSA to shove it sideways. :td: :td: It's pathetic to see a company like AA rolling over for imbeciles. |

This has been the policy on international flights for sometime. |
