Why were Qantas staff loitering in the restroom anyway? Don't they have staff toilets? And how do they know this person actually wrote the note himself...could've been someone else making trouble. I can think of a few FFs who would qualify! ;)

Qantas was correct?

Somewhere in the thread it says that Qantas knew the passenger. I assume that nothing bad actually happened? Does anyone know what precautions were taken by Qantas on board? Does anyone have any information to indicate that there is a risk to allowing deranged people to fly? Is it legal to prevent deranged people from flying? (Deranged airline employees (pilots and others) have arguably caused almost as many passenger deaths as all terrorists combined). Just some random thoughts.

You are correct. Deranged former PSA employee brought down a US Air flight in the late '80s outside San Diego, and it is widely believed that a deranger co-pilot brought down that Egyptair flight a few years ago. Not to mention the SW incident where they found it necessary to strangle a mental patient who hadn't taken his meds before boarding.

Personally I don't care how frequent a flier this guy was. In CA we would send him in for a 72-hour psych screening. Better safe than sorry.
