There is no need whatsoever for a Federal Agency to screen passengers. What is needed is Federal Oversight, not the Airlines, of private screeners.

There has always been federal oversight. This one is still a problem after how many years of being identified??????http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-.../wais/data/gao

The FAA was the regulatory oversite agency pre-TSA

CameraGuy Jun 12, 2004 4:58 am

The FAA was not the proper agency for the job and all of the TSA apologists here know that.

Who should oversee the new private screeners in the government?

Mickey Mouse!
It was a honest question for CameraGuy, who stated that private screeners should be over seen by the government and not the airlines.

CameraGuy Jun 12, 2004 9:40 pm

There are plenty of agencies involved in Security that could handle the task. The Marshalls Service or Secret Service would probably be the best choice(s).

I can tell you that the Coast Guard would NOT be the agency.

OK then. Disband the DEA, and transfer all of their agents to private security. Those guys aren't doing anything worthwhile right now, and we might as well get some legitimate work out of them.

The problem with this country are the Mary-Fly-One-A-Years of Timbucktoo, Wisconsin who think that they know everything there is to know about the world from the Carmen Sandiego games they play with their 2.5 cchldren. These people think that their library Topeka, KS is a legitimate terrorist target and vote Republican relligiously (no pun intened) becase they think that only by harrasing real travelers at JFK, ORD, LAX, DFW, ATL, and similar airports will protect them from attacks comming out of Dothan, Alabama or Midland, Texas.

The truth is none of us on coasts really buy your TSA Bull****. WE know that a nail file won't bring down a 747, we know you have a better chance of dying from the shoe odor at airports than from a show bomb, we know that the TSA brings nothing of value to anone but the TSA.

You see, the TSA is a waste of money. The idea that the government actually pays you people makes me sick. All those millions of dollars could be used for a lot of things, some of them to actually make us safe.

Color me confused. Whose "bull****" are you not buying, exactly?

Methinks that much of what you "know" is actually emotionally-inspired supposition. If you have facts (as opposed to anecdotal evidence) to support your claims, by all means share them with us.

I would like to compare your data to the explosive tests I have witnessed, hand-to-hand combat training I have participated in, the prison guard safety videos I have seen, the "Surviving Edged Weapons" material I've seen, weapons and tactics training manuals (government and private) that have circulated, and the various statistics that have been released by the TSA.

I'm confident that, based on the enthusiasm with which you've made your comments, you'll be able to convince me (and everyone with any experience with the topics upon which your post has touched) that your claims are all 100% accurate and debunk the tripe that we've heretofore relied upon in our personal lives and professional careers. :)

I would agree that the TSA wastes some money, but I respectfully disagree that the agency as a whole is a complete waste of money.

Ick. Have you tried antacid?

I concur! I think we should spend some of that money on the public education system and to help fight illiteracy!
