Random check at L.A. airport uncovers guns
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- A random police check of vehicles at Los Angeles International Airport turned up a pistol and a loaded shotgun in the trunk of a Chevy Sunday night.
Airport police told reporters that the FBI detained Sultan Abdul-Malik because he was a prior felon and had not registered the weapons. Los Angeles television station KNBC said Monday that Abdul-Malik was being held on $35,000 bail. The random car searches continued at the airport Monday because security experts consider it a tempting target for terrorists. It has been on a high state of alert even though the national threat level was reduced to "elevated" over the weekend. |
