TSA at DTW wrecked my bag yesterday. The airline provided me with a TSA claim form, but I'm not even sure I can be bothered filling it out. If they even admit to the damage and pay the claim, how long would I be looking at? 1 yr, 2 yrs, 3 perhaps?

Anyone here sucessfully file a claim against the TSA for luggage damage?

Also, if anyone has a telephone # (or could advise me where I can locate one) for TSA management at DTW I would much appreciate it (the checkpoint was the US Customs & Immigrations luggage re-check area in the NWA terminal where my bag got whacked).

Additionally, the shoe nazi's were out in full force at DTW last night as well, but that's no big surprise. OTOH, at LGW where I originated there was no silly shoe business - at the same time, it is of my opinion security was much better (profiling with short security interviews, true random checks at several levels, etc), but highly professional.

Speaking of silly shoe business, I've cleared checkpoints at LGW, BCN, AMS, & MAD over the past couple of months and no silly shoe business.. Only here in the states...

Cheers,

I avoid checking baggage at all costs.

At the beginning of this idiocy, I foolishly thought the TSA would use Dual Control. Several Stolen Items later, I realized that I was wrong.

Is it possible the bag was opened after being screened by someone else? Air Carrier Baggage Handlers perhaps.

Easier to blame TSA and further your cause.

With the "unlocked luggage" policy who knows wether is was TSA or not. TSA would never do anything like steal so it must be the airlines.

You were the one who assumes it is TSA, but that is perfectly fine.

What an idiot.

It's the policy that is idiotic. With no accountability why should I blame the airline. It's not their policy. If you only knew what I knew.

What do you know about baggage that I don't? That some TSA baggage screeners at some airports are theives...I knew that. Or is it that some of the baggage handlers at some airports like mine are theives, I knew that because I helped in the investigation. There isn't anything you know about the current screening system that I don't know about, maybe someone who is totally clueless, but there aren't any people like that on this board are there?

It will take you about a year to get reimbursed. It's only my opinion, but the TSA often trys to run out the clock when confronted with complaints.

Hey guys, maybe we should get Argenbright Security back in! Then both the airlines CarmelGreg could tell them exactly how to run the show. Besides Argenbright was able to underbid all other companies for the contract before. Maybe they can use the same proceedures that they used then. A guy being paid $6.50 an hour could care less if you bring your toys on board with you.
Yep, good idea. Problems solved!
