Speaking of flag waving......
I was listening to AM radio yesterday and heard a commercial for TSA screener recruitment. It had a very plain patriotic theme to it, essentially "Help protect the country you love, consider coming to work for the Transportation Safety Administration."
In my town, at least, patriotism is looked upon as something positive, not a word to be casually linked up in the same sentence with "fascist," "goon," or "Gestapo." Things might be different in Berkeley or Cambridge, Mass. So I'm not surprised that some TSA screeners here are openly patriotic. Good for them. |
Your post makes the erroneous assumption that the job that the TSA does is patriotic.
It is anything but, and many TSA employees and the traveling public are waking up and noticing that. ------------------ "Give me Liberty or give me Death." - Patrick Henry |
Spot on! I joined the TSA thinking that I it would afford me the opportunity to perform some measure of public service -- it's anything but public service. The past few months I find myself thanking the passengers for putting up with the TSA mandated "security measures" we use to "safeguard" their right to fly.

As it is, I get through TSA security every time without much hassle, and with polite "pleases" and "thank yous" which are sincere.
If you guys had ever been involved with Customs, and dealt with the amount of administrivia that is involved with bringing shipments of goods into the U.S., you would be amazed. Nevertheless, the Customs guys do a patriotic duty for all of us by, among other things, intercepting illegal drugs. Can clearing security be drag? Of course. But it's nothing compared to clearing a pallette through customs, let me tell you. People who work for each agency do patriotic work. The only difference in the customers is that a pallette of men's dress shirts isn't apt to get air rage. http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/wink.gif |

Thug, fascist, police state - don't you have anything else to say?
You write this stuff in every single post. As somebody who has lived in a real police state, behind the Iron Curtain, I can say you don't have a clue as to how good you've got it, not when you keep using those stupid terms over and over like a broken record. |

As one whose job gets to see US customs actually at work on a daily they havent got a friggin clue. They come down to ships with their dogs, walk up and down on deck and leave thinking they have done an thorough inspection. Its a pathetic joke, ask anbody who works in the marine industry. I guarantee if I wanted to bring contraband into the US, with what I know about ships I would succeed 999 times out on 1000. Lastest: Port Manatee (small port south of Tampa) cargo - cement from Colombia 12 car loads of Customs, US Army ( or National guard), County Sherrifs, three cutoms K-9 dogs, two county police divers plus a small amphibious robot. Four hours inspecting the crews quarters, sending divers for a close-up under the hull, plus an inspection by the robot. Nearly 40 law enforcement inspecting a relatively small ship, with only 9 crew. Three days later a port pilot sees some men off-loading some packets at 1200 NOON unto a fishing boat, next to the cement ship, calls port authorities = 128 kilos of cocaine seized. Next day we see the assistant director of Customs for entire South-East on TV telling us how they made this find and seizure. " your custom dept money at work.." she said. Intradiction by sheer luck. The drugs were in the cement cargo compartments. THe customs officers did not want to get cement on their clothes/didnt think the drugs would be in the cargo tanks/or couldnt find the cargo tanks. Pick one or all three. I was there and had to restain myself from rolling on the ground with laughter as I watched the hordes carrying out their inspection. Have regular contact as I do(sometimes up to six times a day) with these clowns and you will soon know that if these are the personnel protecting the USA from contraband or bombs etc this country is in some serious trouble. Hell just last night two of them came to inspect a ship I was working and they did'nt even have a useful flashlight. Please next time, try and pick topic that you are more familiar with. mike [This message has been edited by MIKESILV (edited Dec 09, 2003).] |

As for moderators - I assume it has no moderator because nobody has volunteered to serve. After all, who would want to moderate such a cesspool? http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/frown.gif |
