Will I be able to bring a broom on the airplane?

I checked the TSA webpages about what is permitted. There's no mention of a broom. I was thinking of bringing aboard a kitchen broom. The broom head is not too wide, not like a janitor's broom. I was thinking of not bringing a rollaboard, just a small backpack and a broom.

Most brooms will exceed carryon size limits.

I suspect the broom HANDLE will be the problem... don't they bar things that can be used as "clubs"?
