Last year I used the kiosk and got the X...no big deal as the CBP officer simply asked me where I was coming from (Asia) and I responded that I live in Asia. No problem. After that I started using the mobile passport app and have had not a single problem since. I love the app, actually. Last time I entered LAX I was through immi and customs in less than 2 minutes while everyone else was backed up in line.
