Actually, it is Airside Mobile. Just go on your iPhone and to get on App and then search for Airside Mobile. You can download it.

That's what they SAID!

It's interesting because US FIS facilities are so strict about mobile phone use. They're always going around telling people to put their phones away.

They'll have to change their rules for this.

Airside Mobile (LLC) is not the name of the iPhone app. That is the name of the "seller".

The iPhone App has been called "Mobile Passport - Officially authorized by the U.S. Customs & Border Prote....." or something like that for as long as I can recall having it on my devices, which is since this started.

Other airports will get it this year, so it won't just be ATL (as it has been so far).

Ah, my confusion, still, that's what the person told them - to search for Airside Mobile. How exactly does this work on iPhone with no NFC reader? I should download it to check it out even tho I don't plan to fly into ATL.

OMG, I just downloaded it to look. WHAT A CLUNKY APP, that could be implemented so much more cleanly. Especially on Android. On Android it COULD be:

1. Take a picture of the MRZ (to get the encryption keys)
2. Hold the phone against the passport (to read the chip and validate the passport, and download the photo to fill the photo need - with a real passport photo)

More secure and faster... ugh. Why the clunky that is this?

Lowest common denominator is why. And cheap begets cheap. :D

Mobile Passport Control App Released by CBP

Haven't they decide to expand more Airside Mobile? Any more US Airports?

Yes, they've decided to roll this out to more airports, but I don't know of any that have it beside ATL yet.

So now that this is also in Miami, I'm wondering and hoping for JFK. I travel internationally on business, and have Global Entry... but my family, who will travel with me this summer, do not have GE. So when that happens, I just wait in line with them. :-(

Now I'm thinking if this app works and speeds things up a bit, then everyone can get the App and we can all cruise through the Mobile Passport line a little bit faster than the paper line.

Opinions??

Thanks for the info about MIA being the second airport to have this.

It started this week:

You could use the Automated Passport Control kiosks or send them to the APC kiosks and you use the GE kiosk. http://www.miami-airport.com/preclear.asp

Thought you want to see this. Here is the link:

What's next? How about PHX, LAX, DTW, JFK, ORD or SFO?

ords Mar 6, 2015 10:30 am

I believe there's been 10 machines ordered for ORD with wifi currently being installed. No time line when it's up and running. I do know there will need to be a policy change for use of phones with the FIS area.

ords Mar 13, 2015 7:18 pm

It looks like April 13th the Mobile app will be officially starting at ORD.

RobOnLI Mar 26, 2015 8:27 pm

Seattle Tacoma Intl Airport (SEA) started today.

Has anyone actually used this app? I'm wondering if this is better/faster/quicker than Global Entry. I already have GE so don't see a need for the app right now but if i can whisk through immigration with just my passport and some pre-filled out data on an iPhone then I'd rather do that then feed my passport into a machine and have my fingerprints taken.

I guess GE still gets the benefit of having a dedicated customs lane at most airports...for now. I suspect they'll put these mobile app users in that line, too.
