The physical GE card is really only of use for North American border crossings. Once accepted into the program, your passport & biometric data are entered into the GE database which allows you to use the GE kiosks with machine readable passport ( and Smartgate kiosks in Australia).

Actually, it is Airside Mobile. Just go on your iPhone and to get on App and then search for Airside Mobile. You can download it.

I missed this thread earlier, but I cleared US Customs in ATL earlier this week, and I was quite confused by the automated passport clearance system. I thought the huge bank of kiosks were Global Entry, then realized they weren't, and had to search for the tiny bank of GE kiosks.

Glad the 99% may be getting some relief.

US CBP's Mobile Passport Control at ATL

Hi,

Have any of you tried using US CBP's Mobile Passport Control program at ATL? This is the program linked to the Mobile Passport iPhone app that lets you use the express lane at passport control.

I'm looking for feedback on how the app works, what features should be added, etc.

Thanks!

Wife and I returned from Cabo San Lucas on Wednesday, and near the end of the flight remembered I had downloaded this app in December. I called it up (don't need wifi or anything to get it set up), entered in my passport information, answered some customs questions about bringing in meats, fruits and spending time on a farm. It then asked me for the current trip information--who the airline was, my destination airport. It also made me take a selfie. Next I had to add the same information for my wife and she had to take a selfie also. Upon arrival at ATL I clicked the button saying "I have arrived", and in a few seconds received a "receipt" with a QR code for each of us. Took some doing to find the single kiosk at passport control that was handling this type of entry, but once we did we scanned the two QR codes, were given a card stating our customs responsibilities were cleared, and after claiming our bags we waved our card and whizzed out the door. By the way, the line for "regular folks" going through passport control was averaging about 90 minutes, it took us less than 5. It's still only being tested at ATL but seems to have a lot of the benefits of GE but without the cost. Maybe others who have GE can enlighten me as to the differences.

Sounds very cool. Kudos to CBP for being creative and thinking about ways to leverage technology. I'll stick with GE for now, but this is cool.

Too bad other government agencies can not embrace technology in this way.

I just searched and could not find it. But the PR says Fall '14, so hopefully soon.

I am really impressed by how CBP has used technology to reduce the wait times that were driven by paperwork.

Mobile Passport App - replaces GE?

Just read this: http://lifehacker.com/mobile-passpor...ing-1686491430.

I don't get it, how do you get to skip the line when returning from overseas? I thought only GE permits this?

This topic already has a thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/check...eased-cbp.html

To answer your question, you fill the info on the app and it produces a QR type code which you then use after going to a different (much shorter) line where the QR scan helps the CBP to more quickly process the person.

It doesn't replace GE; and it doesn't replace APC kiosks. It is just part of an effort to do more things that may possibly speed up things for most passengers. It does mark part of the process that will allow the government to get closer to eliminating its printing costs for the CBP 6059b form by some point late next year if everything goes on schedule.

Its CBP/DHS finally doing something to actually streamline the process for a majority of passengers, which is probably driven by a desire to finally recover tourism numbers. It took LAX 14 years to recover from 9/11, and this kind of initiative only helps major tourist destinations.
