Zurich Airport flight deck problem
At Zurich Airport there is a flight deck [free entry if you have a Zurich card]; you can also purchase a bus tour of the airport [W, Su in the winter; W, Sa, Su in the summer]. To get access to this area you have to go through full airport security, if anything sets off the detector, they give you a complete pat down and wallets (if in your pocket) must also be x-rayed. The security for this area is more severe than pax going through regular departure security...you only have access to an observation deck.

So what do you think what happens when a Terrorist fire some rounds on an Aircraft or Pax or drops a weapon for another terrorist who take a flight?!

My OP had to do with an observation deck*...you can watch from a great distance, flights taking off and landing. [One does not have access to the flight boarding areas from this deck.] My "complaint" was that that they had to X-Ray my wallet**, even though it did not "beep" when his hand scanner passed over it. My suspenders set off the "alarm". They should have given me the opportunity to remove them, then let me go through the metal detector again. [US TSA does.] *A few planes do depart from an area near the OD, but at a considerable distance. **I store my collapsible UZI in my 3"x3" wallet.:D PS: About two years ago they used the E deck for flight observations, this did allow access to the terminals. |
These tours sound pretty cool! I will be at ZRH for a couple of days this coming weekend. Do you recommend these tours? Are they conducted in English or German?
Thanks all! |

Thanks all! I went on a Sunday, lots of people--if you can do it on Saturday, it may be more relaxed and you many not have to wait too long after you purchase your ticket. PS: To get to buy the tour ticket you must first buy a flight deck entrance (free if you have a Zurich card--covers museums, mass transit also). I'm not sure if you get credit toward the tour (if you don't have a ZC). |
