passport renewal forgot to write dob

I forgot to write my date of birth on my check for my passport renewal. It's Saturday night and I'm obsessing. (It's a US passport)

Any idea what they will do? I paid for expedited renewal.

I'm just guessing here, but in my experience bureaucrats tend to do whatever is easiest for them.

In your case, it would be easier for whoever gets your application to look at your DOB on your old passport and write it on the check than it would for him to mail your check and application back to you telling you that you have to put in your DOB.

Incidentally, I have never had to write my DOB on a check to renew my passport. When did this begin?

Hope you're right. I have no idea when it began but the directions say you MUST put your name and dob on your check.

Likely, it will be issued without issue/problem. A lot of US passport applications paid for by check don't include, on the check, the birthday of the person for whom a passport is to be issued per the application.

Extraordinarily unlikely that anything (bad) will happen.

Having the name & DOB on the check is simply one way for the Passport Agency to match the check to the application if they become separated.

No problem with the renewal, but your passport record will be flagged and you will be subject to enhanced interrogation, as well as baggage and body cavity search every time you enter.

I never put my DOB on the cheque when I applied for the passport. Neither did my wife, my parents, or her parents. Yet, everybody got their passports just fine.

The easiest way to find out is if they cash your check. I sent mine in for extra pages and they cashed the check two days after receipt of the envelope which had USPS tracking.

I just did the same thing. Did you rec your passport anyway or was the application returned to you?

I agree with this. The State Department's guidelines about DOB on the front of the check appear to allow the employee to write the DOB, if the passport applicant forgot to include it:

Foreign Affairs Manual, volume 7, section 1360, appendix G:

NOTE: The date of birth of the applicant(s) must be listed on all checks submitted at an acceptance facility.
As you can see, it doesn't say:

a passport specialist or other designated staff member must reject it and request..
or that the check without the DOB

must be returned to the sender with Information Request Letter 795 ...
as it says about checks drawn on foreign banks.

So, in other words, the FAM does not say that a check without a DOB needs to be returned -- even though the FAM knows the proper wording to tell an employee to return a check, if it wants to express such an idea. In fact, it appears to leave room for the State Department employee to write the DOB.
