I saw the duct tape over his mouth and thought.... one day soon, someone is going to be asphyxiated by a well-intentioned FA. There are hoods that can be secured over someone’s face to prohibit spitting. They are designed to not interfere with breathing. I understand the concerns over yelling, but this is severe. Why not use something like this…

Of course it's not. Because fellow passengers and crew are the actual last line of defense against an unruly passenger, whether intending harm to others or not, despite TSOs thinking they are all that stands between the bad guys and downed planes.
While federal air marshals fly under cover on some routes to protect passengers from terrorists, airlines have their own protocols on how to deal with travelers who may have had too much to drink or are behaving badly. Dealing with unruly passengers is not a function of the Transportation Security Administration, said agency spokesman David Castelveter.

The funny thing about this is it was an overseas flight, he drank a whole bottle of booze. By the time they landed, he must have had to pee like a race horse.
