Request Full-body scanner - possible with Pre-Check?

Instead of going through the metal detector, can one ask (after receiving all the benefits of pre-check) to go through a full-body scanner?
Well, I know one CAN ask, but is this possible, with the lanes usually isolated from one another??

It should not be a problem. You will not be the first Pre-qualified pax who has a reason for preferring the NoS, presumably for medical reasons.

However...if you use the NoS, it may mean that you have to empty your pockets, take off your belt, jacket and shoes, even if you are Pre-qualified.

Sure... just don't go through the little gate to the special line. If you want to be extra nice, just tell the TDC "Thanks, but I can't use the metal detector".

Thanks for the replies. I guess that means you can't have your cake, and eat it too. So, qualified friend cannot use pre-check.
Concerns a knee transplant. Metal detector leads to the patdown, shoes off, re-check; only benefit may, in some cases, be the shorter line at pre-check.

I honestly don't think this part of the policy has been thought out.

I would suggest that someone in this situation explain to the first available TSO past the TDC ('moat dragon', 'traffic director'). It does appear that they are making efforts to ensure that there's no 'crossover' between Pre-cleared pax and regular pax (makes sense), but it is also possible that a Pre- WTMD alarm will receive a less-invasive grope or an escort through the nearest NoS (hopefully while allowing the pax to keep an eye on his bags).

Perhaps someone who has Pre- and has alarmed the WTMD will weigh in here and describe his/her experiences - ie, what does TSA do to resolve the alarm?

WTMD Less Sensitive at Pre-Check

Would the knee even alarm a WTMD at the Pre-Check? In Detroit they told me to leave everything in my pockets (keys, change, etc.) with the exception of my cell phone, which suggests that the WTMD sensitivity is turned way down.

Yes, but that can vary from airport to airport. I've alarmed the WTMD with a metal belt buckle, and we've all heard tales of underwire bras alarming the WTMD. Likewise, the amount of metal in a repaired knee can vary wildy from person to person, due to differences in the injury and the preferences of the surgeon.

yes, do this. Wait until your the TDC is finished then say "oh, its just the metal detector, and ask for the NoS", this way you still breeze past the other, usually longer, non-precheck lane.
