My post referred to the middle east across the Turkish border.

Yeah, I read that. But you started this particular part of the debate, so speak up!

I see that the poster in question has a blog about aviation, on which there are no entries since 2011, and that most of his experience is US-based. Does that make him sacrosanct? Likewise, Spiff has a vested interest in disparaging any aviation security measures.

I stand by my opinion that, if they have not experienced security measures in the UK or Israel, they are not qualified to judge them.

That's the thing about an urban myth, it's timeless and a really good one will be updated to modern days.

Excuse me? I'm not in the habit of obeying orders from other posters on internet fora. If by giving you a hint to back off here you feel that I "started it", well, that's fine by me.

Many thanks, I had that very post in mind. If I'd remembered that it was written by Randy then I may have been able to find it myself.

OK. Thank you. That explains a lot. I apologize unreservedly to N830MH for not understanding his difficulties and for criticising his English.

However, I still maintain that, since he has no personal experience of UK security procedures, he is not qualified to judge them and so should not condemn them out of hand.

And I maintain that one doesn't have to eat an entire apple to know that it's full of worms.

Sometimes, being cryptic does not work.

You see, there is no more reason why I should have obeyed your (unexplained) hint to back off than there was for you to do what I asked.

Yes, and you don't have to lay eggs to raise chickens. Heard that before, too.

Doesn't mean that personal experience of some things is irrelevant.

Do you have a reliable source? Snopes has traced the myth's origins back to an unnamed Gulf State in 1973.
