Title "Mr" appears as middle name
I recently booked a ticket through vayama.com despite the horrible reviews because I wasn't anticipating any changes to my flight.
Unfortunately, I now see that my name appears as: LASTNAME/FIRSTNAME MR on my ticket confirmation, and as FIRSTNAME Mr LASTNAME when selecting seats on the airline's website. This is for travel from Chile to Argentina, within Argentina, and from Argentina to Chile. Vayama told me that this wasn't a problem, but I'm not exactly inclined to believe them. I am guessing my name will appear on my ticket just as it does on my confirmation. I have no middle name, and I am worried that this will cause problems at the security checkpoints. I want to think this is no big deal, but I have a somewhat tight connection home that I don't want to miss. your help is greatly appreciated! |
I don't think it's a big deal. No airline employee is going to think that your last name is "MR".

I'd prefer they not use titles at all.

That's exactly how titles are supposed to appear in airline systems-- they go after the first and middle names in the first name field.
For example: LAST/FIRSTMIDDLEMR or LAST/FIRSTMR if there is no middle name. |

I've seen some airport security, airline security contractors and immigration/customs security personnel make a stink about the name on the boarding pass/ticket over a title showing up on it, particularly when such documents included a title that may be close in spelling to a passenger's middle name but also otherwise. More of an "issue" when the person is considered -- even wrongfully -- to be "foreign", but it's infrequent for it to be a travel stopper even when an issue is made of it by airport/airline/government employees. |
The OP is almost certainly not going to have a problem over such a circumstance, so it is indeed no big deal generally speaking. Travel in such a way is very routine.

Thanks to all your replies. To be safe I contacted LAN and they also said there shouldn't be a problem.
This is also for travel within South America, where security is considerably more lax, so hopefully there's no problems there either. I think in the future I'll just refuse to give a title. :) Thanks again. |
So, "Mileage Run" is your middle name?!!? - now THAT'S a dedicated FlyerTalk member!

I'm not sure why it matters. What I enter on my Secure Flight data never matches what the airline lists on my boarding pass.

For example, a person whose traveling from the US abroad on US passport has a given name of Nicholas Mir with a family name of Svensson in the passport. He could have a ticket purchased as Svensson Nick (i.e. reverse order to what is common and with an abbreviated form of Nicholas). The boarding pass printing out with the name NICK/SVENSSON, and the (In)Secure Flight info transmitted having the name first name as Nicholas and the last name as Svensson. There are lots of permutations of such that get transmitted and processed. |
Almost certainly not going to be an issue.

Oh that isn't so bad. I had some tickets purchased by US gov't travel agents and NATO travel agents and it would have ranks in there.
Like DOE/CAPTJOHNN or CAPTDOE/NJOHN or the such. One CBP guy in Atlanta thought my first name was Captain and another in MIA asked me what a Captain was (I just said it comes after Lieutentant). Now it seems the gov't tickets don't even add a MR/DR etc. baby steps. |
