"Please do not remove [these bins]"

Have you ever walked up to the security and come up to the wheeled trolley that holds the bins and you've come up and there are none left except two--the ones that are machined screwed into the trolley and they have written "please do not remove" in them?

Really? Do they expect someone to try to yank one off that is screwed in with four large machine screws? I shake my head everytime.

I've seen many a person who did not notice the screws and try to pull it off the trolley. They assume they are on a cart, not bolted to a cart. Most people don't inspect the inside of the bin, which is one reason I think companies who buy advertising space in them are wasting their money.

Of course, that also means they won't notice the do not remove signs, but that's another story.

Some people are dumb.

Wow. That amazes me. It should be quite obvious to anyone that those bins aren't going anywhere.

Considering that packets of peanuts say "Warning: Contains nuts", I don't think this is unreasonable.

I have seen people at the checkpoint look at the shroud of the Xray, which is a transparent brown colour, see their items and smash their hand into the shroud trying to get their items. Worst case I have ever seen is a man tried it, smashed his had, had a confused look on his face and tried it again. Didn't work the second time either.

How about the warnings on irons that say "Don't use while wearing clothes to be ironed."

But then again, we created the TSA, so how smart are we really?

I worked with a young lady once that did that very thing. Needless to say it didn't work out well for her..

Well,
If you get to that bottom one, this implies the most basic function of the clerk, i.e. tub stacking, has not been performed. I would be tempted to put the whole wheeled trolley on the belt with some non fragile items (e.g. shoes, belt or jacket). Just as a gentle reminder to the clerks, you understand.... :)

Yeah, that's another sign of how well TSA manages its own operations.....and how the supervisors have no visual contact with the front of the checkpoint.

What if the bottom, bolted-on bin sign said: "We're sorry! Please tell nearest TSA officer more bins are needed.....we don't mean to deliberately slow down this checkpoint, honestly."

It's sad to see closed lanes stocked with hundreds of bins which won't be used for many hours when an extra lane might be opened.

At ORD, and maybe other places, the bins have numbers on them. Does this imply that they periodically put the bins in order to see if any are missing? What do they do if one IS missing??

I seem to recall other postings here that indicate that numbers are used to identify the bins --- say, when a passenger is undergoing a pat-down and has requested that their belongs be brought over to them. ("Which of those completely identical looking grey bins have your items?" "Numbers 12, 8, and 15.")

In one or more countries (maybe someone can fill in my blanks) we've been handed a laminated tag that functions as a claim check to turn over in return for the bin.

Quite civilized actually. ^

Interesting, as this has consistently been done in HKG (and I do agree it's very civilized).

But last week, they did not do this. Wonder if it was stopped for some reason.
