I can't remember the last time I saw a cop in a US city (who wasn't in SWAT gear) walking around with a bullet vest - but every cop I see in Toronto has one on...in Toronto...like it's Kabul or something

One cultural difference between us - if a US employer told their US employees to wear or do something that was silly or uncomfortable, people here would speak up and raise a ruckus (especially government employees protected by their union) and even refuse to comply.
Canadian are just too accepting of authority. And if you want to see a lineup of people "too accepting of authority" why don't you head to your nearest airport. I believe you have those down there. |

That wasn't a personal jab at individual inspectors, that was a jab at Canadian government policy - which I jab at quite frequently.

Canadian are just too accepting of authority. If inspectors don't like them (and I'd imagine sitting there for hours at a time with that thing on is not comfortable), then why not go to the union and organize a big stink over it and get large groups of staff to show up for work without the jackets? Again, sheeple in the US are causing other Americans and those of us who don't even live there to go through ridiculous security theatre because they aren't speaking up. I hardly think the Canadian government requiring CPB officers to wear safety gear even comes close to some of the issues we are seeing south of the border. We're far from perfect here but the above was almost laughable. |

Most police officers (well, the smart ones) in the US wear their vests under their shirts. Not sure if your aware of that. Like this.

As Good Guy already said, they're wearing internal carriers. And, really, it's none of you're affair.

1. In the customs and immigration area, the passport control people sitting behind the desks wear body armor! We're not talking about immigration & customs people working at the entrance to a Canadian Embassy in a really bad country in a really bad neighborhood. These people are inside secure areas in major internal Canadian airports where everyone arriving has been screened for weapons of some type??? Everyone arriving there has been screened and divested of weapons and bottles of water. Whats the worry then? |
Let me defuse the U.S.-Canadian tension going on here by highlighting that the "Security Theatre" in both countries is equally stupid. Come over to Europe and see how people enjoy civilized travel:p

Exactly. Canadian opt-out rates are higher and on the rise. So much for accepting of authority. |
