Saw this on Drudge.

Not sure it belongs here but wondering just what does this have to do with DHS?

1) The website was run by DHS (it appears) and involves travel and the security of minors abroad. Seems like this is in the right place.

2) Mission creep.

They got to have some one to catch, as it appears they haven't caught too many terrorists since they were created.

Hey, a few sex tourists looks good on their resume.

Look for a fake illegal drugs website in the future.

Or wait, gun sales to the drug lords down south, where they
really allow the guns to be transported and used.

As much as I hate pedos, I gotta say.....looks like someone at DHS enjoyed their work a little too much. What a disgusting bunch of people. Why are these pervs on our payroll???

I was mildly amused by this thread until I read the actual acticle ...

According to court records and several sources familiar with the sting operation, the “Precious Treasure Holiday Company” web site was operated by investigators assigned to DHS’s Cleveland office. In affidavits sworn by Agent Gabriel Hagan, the undercover web site is described as “offering ‘international travel’ from Cleveland, Ohio, to Canada for the purpose of engaging in sexually explicit conduct with minors.”
As a Canadian, now I'm offended ... Seriously? Like Canada is the cornucopia for sex-with-minors? Anyone who knows anything about Canada should have known better ...

the ones not good enough to contribute to the kiddie porn site are reassigned to TSA to look at little kids naked in the nude scanners.

The sad part is that this is the intelligentsia of DHS.

What worries me about the DHS is the politically appointed positions. Their political appointees at the top of the organization consult politically motivated "experts" like the Heritage Foundation or the Southern Poverty Law center. These people aren't so much "experts" as life-long wing-nuts, so steeped in their lunatic fringe ideologies that everything they say is suspect. Rational people automatically filter "information" from these two sources, because they're both a bit bonkers. (Sorry to pick on these two, but they exemplify a certain "type" on opposite ends of the same spectrum.)

Anyway, I don't think the DHS should be led by political appointees, nor should they get their "information" or "research" from the lunatic fringe.

You wonder where they get their crazy notions, then you find out who their "experts" are. You find out their "experts" are just political hacks and wing-nut kooks. Of course the DHS doesn't have a clue how to look for pedophiles. Of course the DHS doesn't have a clue which organizations represent a terrorist threat. They haven't thought rationally about these questions. They haven't consulted with people qualified to speak to those issues from a well-educated, objective standpoint.

So why is it the bidness of DHS to conduct investigations and/or stings regarding kiddie porn? isn't that what the fibbiies are for?

While I am no fan of pedophiles and they deserve what they get. WTH does catching them have to do with DHS?? Seems like mission creep. Now if the FBI wants to catch a pedophile I am all for it. Though I have to admit Dateline was pretty funny to watch, to a point, then it was just sad as how many came a calling.
