Relieved: no pat down,no scan

My wife and I travelled from DTW to SJU return recently.I had tried to prepare my wife for what would happen at the airport but she was quite concerned about the possibility of a stranger laying hands on her.Frankly,I wasn't sure how i would react myself. As it turned out both in Detroit and San Juan we walked through the metal detectors and no one touched us.Does this happen often or were we just lucky?

It happens, and it happens relatively often. The more one flies, however, the more likely one is to encounter the scanner and/or a patdown, especially if one flies from certain airports and/or if one wears skirts etc. DTW is an airport which practices war on skirts, by the way.

This is a challenge because many infrequent fliers (and some luckly frequent fliers) then come here and ask 'why the fuss?'

I have often said that one can have 20 unremarkable experiences, but the 21st can be the one which changes ones opinion.

I've been going through the metal detectors for years, and have never been given a pat-down. I guess the WTMD likes me :D The only time it has happened, is when I have opted-out.

You'll need start wearing a skirt! (or at least a kilt) :p

But the war on skirts too is inconsistent; some airports seem to practice it as a rule, others do not.
