SLC, terrorist central?

Flying out of SLC tonight. Nude o scope at every security checkpoint, and now 3 TSagents have been waiting for my flight to board with a box of gloves.

Had no idea Salt Lake was a terrorist hotbed. Everyone was so nice while I was here...

SLC had the Winter Olympics very soon after 9/11/2001, 2/2002 to be exact. They were one of the primary locations for testing and trying out new procedures. It was a huge, "let's be very scared" deal for a while. I had a consulting job there in 12/2001 when there was military in the AP and hand checking of luggage at the ticket counters. It was much calmer when I returned in July.

They have sort of stayed ahead of the curve since then as well.

T1 finally get the NoS? Granted, it's been awhile since I've flown out of there, but DL's T2 seemed to get all the TSA toys while T1 was largely ignored.

T1 has two nudiscopes while T2 only has one. There is also one in the international terminal. Fortunately, when the elite line is open in T2 one can use the WTMD.

As for the Olympics - some of the security was nonsense. We flew back in the night of closing ceremony. Coming out of the C concourse we were met by military personnel who told us we had to exit via Terminal 1. i.e. we could not walk down the stairs to the baggage claim in Terminal 2. Thinking we could not get into baggage claim at all I engaged in a discussion of where do we find our bags. Not my concern was the reply. I then started to turn around and find a Delta employee but was ordered to exit. At that point I was not going argue as he did have the upper hand - an M16. So we walked down to T1, around, and then walked right into T2 baggage claim at the same stairs we could not go down. As I walked in I saw the same military personnel at the top of the stairs. I can remember what I gestured but eye contact was made the same person. Go figure that one.

OP here.
T1 had 3 MMW on Friday, only one in use. Easy self opt out.

The 3 agents at our boarding gate just stood their staring. Not one bag searched. Money well spent.

I just got back from SLC. The MMW's were present but not in use when I went through "security".

Silly you! Don't you know that a stare from a TSA screener can turn a terrorist to stone? Just like the mythical Gorgons, but it only works on terrorists. :D

They have x-ray eyes and can detect all threats just by looking.

Shhhh. Don't complain. They'll find a way to screw up even if that's the only task they're given.
