TSA Statement Regarding Moscow Tragedy

nullStatement from TSA:

"We are monitoring the tragedy at Moscow's Domodedovo airport. As always, we are working with our international partners to share information regarding the latest terrorist tactics and security best practices.

Passengers may continue to notice unpredictable security measures in all areas of U.S. airports, including before the checkpoint. These measures include explosive detection technology, canine teams and Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) teams, among other measures both seen and unseen.

The safety and security of the American people is our highest priority, and we ask the public to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to their local authorities."

A perfectly logical response to the Chechen threat @ ORD.

We will ultimately end up sacrificing all our freedoms on the altar of safety.
And sadly most people will be okay with that.

With DHS, mission creep knows no limits. I am just waiting for the day when they use a bomb blast in a store in some part of Asia to put screeners in (non-airport) mall parking lots.

DHS will not publicly acknowledge the "Caucasian/'Chechen' threat" being a product also of US government backing -- before the collapse of the Soviet Union but also after the collapse of the Soviet Union -- yet here is DHS/TSA responding, in its typically ineffective way except for CYA.

This is not a rhetorical question: are they suggesting that because of an incident in Moscow we are going to be harassed even MORE than they are currently doing? BEFORE checkpoints? I cannot accept that - not being a frequent flyer. That is just too much. I will be forced to quit my job and look for new work if that materializes.

Not to ruin your day? But yes. Sooner or later they will realize that they must screen all gatherings of 50 or more people. Or they will come to their senses and realize that this type of risk is a necessity of life and that total 'security' isn't possible in a free society.

Wanna bet which way they lean?

Its like Christmas at TSA HQ today.

The tragedy in Moscow means more funding, more authority, more expansion and a reinforcement of security illusion over human rights.

+1

Don't forget the party at the offices of RapeScan.. Chertoff is probably going out to a nice dinner tonight

With each attack, we waste more money on tactics that may not prevent an attack.. Another day where we shut the barn door, after the horse escapes.

Yes, we understand that TSA "officers" are not well trained or consistently trained, and that they spend a lot of time stumbling around and making things up as they go. That ineptitude certainly makes for "unpredictable security measures".

So, is DHS more like MiniTruth, or MiniLove?

TSA misspelled the word- they meant to write "unreliable", not "unpredictable".

More Security Gonna Happen - See WaPo

This was in the Washington Post today:

"Ron said an intense security ring extends well beyond the airport doors in Tel Aviv.

"There is a checkpoint on the main access road to the airport where cars are stopped and searched," he said. "There is security at every entrance, with personnel who are highly trained in suspicious behavior detection and recognition of suspicious items.

"Before a person gets into the terminal, he or she has been under more than a few pairs of eyes, has been spoken to and, if necessary, searched."

There's been a checkpoint on the LAX approach road for a long time.
Shuttle vans breeze through without a second glance .
