Canada options

What is security like in Canada?

I've only ever gone through Canadian airport security a few times, and it resembled US security at the time. Are they using Nude-o-scopes there?

Would this be a practical way to start a long distance flight? (All cabotage problems aside.) Would increasing passenger volumes at places like YQG (Windsor, ON) cause the folks in DC to take notice?

Certainly places like YVR, YYZ and YUL wouldn't notice an uptick in travel from a few irritated Americans, given the population numbers already in those places. YWG and YYC aren't really near major US populations. But YQG is small enough and close enough to a large city to cause notice. Are Canadians avoiding BUF and other near border US airports due to this nonsense?

Can the Nude-o-scopes be made an economic issue for places like DTW, BUF, BTV and the like?

Of course, I may not be thinking clearly about this.

I'm ignoring airports in Mexico, because that could be a whole 'nuther can of worms. Though I suppose that's an option for those near the south border.

Transborder is shoes off, domestic and international is sanity. CATSA is generally much more civil, no shouting, often multi-lingual, and generally a calmer athmosphere. A few WBI machines exist but are not often in use (see the sticky) and opt out is an option with no retaliation. Selection is entirely random via the mat.

I am currently in an airport in Canada, next to an international checkpoint, and it is calm and peaceful.

You've still got to get to that Canadian airport. Even if you are close enough to drive, we've seen reports of increased Border Patrol harrassment of travellers:

Awww, you found my secret. YQG-YYZ-FRA.
Alternate: YXU-YYZ-FRA (London-Toronto-Frankfurt)

Driving across at Port Huron or Windsor into Canada, no problem. Coming back, I usually get inspected. Cost more and is worth it.
