Opt-out day question
 

I am not flying that day, but have some time to visit my local airport and hand out flyers. Does anyone know if we need to get some sort of clearance?

Sorry for the fresh thread - I've seen the question asked in other threads, but haven't seen an answer.

As someone who flies just about every week out of Denver International Airport, I've seen a lot of people passing out information for things like the Jehovah's Witnesses without any problems. (I do notice that they never ask for money, however. So maybe that's what the rule is about.)

I'm planning to pass out some flyers too that day, in my case before my flight. I'm planning to dress well, and basically walk around asking people if they want more information on opting out of the scanners. If they say "yes," then I'll hand them a flyer.

But anyway, sorry I don't know what the official rule is. The main thing I just want to say is good luck to you!

Yes, you need approval from the airport before you hand out brochures to people. Denver definitely needs a permit. Call the airport ops office, or media/public relations..

Just buy a refundable ticket on a credit card, then you'll be in line with the rest of the people, can hand out brochures and participate. Nice thing is that you can let them start the pat down then refuse the groin check and be escorted out. Your not going to fly anyway.

This is my plan... fully refundable ticket, get in line for the virtual strip-search machine, opt out, LOUDLY refuse to have any TSA workers touch my breasts and/or genitals, get escorted out, rinse, repeat.

Actually, as a homemaker with a husband overseas and only one bird left in her nest, I have lots of time on my hands. I'm thinking of taking this up as a hobby... presently trying to convince dad (retired) and bro (homebased business and talented photographer) to join in the fun on a somewhat regular basis... updates to be provided as warranted!

Keep raising the level of awareness of this idiocy and, eventually, hopefully, some level of sanity will return.

It might be even better if she had 2 or three fully refundable tickets for various dates in the future. When she cancels the one on the 24th, cancel the other ones, too.... for the same reason.

Should clarify that while refusing to allow a TSA worker to touch genitals/breasts without cause, will be emphatically volunteering to undergo the "standard" metal detector screening along with the overwhelmingly HUGE majority of other passengers.

Also, while the airport CC video footage of that radio personality who claimed to be handcuffed, etc., proved to be underwhelming, it WAS fascinating to watch all people going through the WBI...

What specifically drew our attention was counting at least two people (possibly three) whose bags exited the xray machine while the travelers were still inside the WBI, and while other travelers were collecting their own belongings.

Their bags were out of their line of sight and control while they were being screened. Even if their view hadn't been obstructed by the backscatter panels, they were required to stand with their backs to the baggage xray, which also happens to be at least 10 feet away from the WBI.

That's two people in a 13-minute time frame, which included a somewhat lengthy period where the WBI was not being utilized at all.

TSA and other passengers (who have not been screened for possession of explosives... gasp) may have access to your bags if you undergo WBI screening. This is another reason to object to the virtual strip-search even for those who are not concerned about radiation risks and/or privacy and/or fourth amendment rights violations.
