Full Body Scanner with with knee replacement?

Any chance I can just do the full body scan and be done with it, and not have to do the agressive pat down with a knee replacement??? i would prefer it to the agressive pat down. As an elderly female senior, I greatly resent the full pat down even before recent changes the last few weeks. If I have a piece of metal in my knee from an operation, why the lift your arms and spread your legs and examine all over. THE METAL IS IN MY KNEE!!. There I vented, I feel better alrealy!!

Sorry, if they don't feel you up, there's no way to know for sure if there's a replacement joint or a bomb in your knee.

The whole body imager is actually better for you as far as not having to go through secondary screening as you would with the Walkthrough Metal Detector because you alarmed it.

I think there are two problems with this strategy.

The first problem is the health risk associated with radiation exposure in the body scanners.

The second problem is that the TSA will do the patdown to "resolve" any "anomalies" in the scanning (as in Dave Barry's blurry groin"). Some folks here have reported that they have observed 1/3 - 1/2 of passengers in the scanner get patted down anyhow.

In any case, the OP can look at the sticky about which airports (and which terminals and lanes have the scanners.

Recent experience

I have two fake knees.

I had gotten used to the normal pat-down wanding deal and always budgeted some extra time for it.

Boy have things changed the last few weeks....at my smallish airport I got patted down like never before--very intrusive so much so I figured I'd start asking for a privacy room.

On the way home they had the body scanners (an MMW).....they just waved me through. For the first time in years I made it through security before hubby! I loved it!
