I can fix the TSA
 

I just thought of how we can fix the TSA. I think we can all agree that the Capitol Building in DC and the Senate and House Office buildings are very critical buildings with people that must be protected.

So, we just need a law stating that the TSA must man checkpoints at every entrance to the above buildings and that every individual passing through those checkpoints must be screened using the most through method of screening currently in use at any US Airport.

If they are being honest with the country the members of Congress cannot say no to this, and if they do say no then we have another data point of their lies. If this does go through then the first time that the Speaker of the House is felt up the rules would change.

So, understanding that this would never happen.....what do you think?

I think TSA would quickly find out the extent of substance abuse. ;)

The only fix for TSA is the destruction of the agency.

Of course, it would cause gross inefficiency and absolute gridlock. It just may work.

Most congressmen are searched by TSA twice a week already
 

Congress only meets Tuesday through Thursday, to allow Congressmen to fly to their home districts for fundraising the rest of the week. So, except for those few whose districts are within driving distance, the rest of our 535 congressmen are presumably already getting searched by TSA twice a week, both at a Washington-area airport, and at their home airport.

Congressmen know. They know how bad it's gotten. But they don't care. Because the voters demand to be "kept safe," and in the political calculus, security theater still wins many more votes than it loses. And no Congressman, no President, no career bureaucrat wants to have been on record as "opposing security" when the next attack inevitably occurs.

Until the voting public itself rejects security theater, the security theater will continue. Because security theater works, not as a security measure, but as a political measure.

Under the published version of the SOP members of Congress are exempt from Secondary Screening. Until recently the really good screenings were only done in secondary.

Finally, the Speaker has a 'private' jet that we pay for.

Come on. We all know that some animals are more equal than others.

What exactly do you by "secondary screening"? I can tell you for a fact, if they alarm the WTMD, AIT, etc., they receive additional screening.

And how many of them just skip the screening?

Hmmm i left out the word "mean", and you put it in the wrong place. That's actually kind of funny. :)

Very very few of the skip screening; very few have the authority to do so.

It actually benefits them to be screened, more so at their home airports - I've seen them use such opportunities to shake hands, and chum up to the public - "I'm one of you!". Sort of makes sense for a politician to do that; heck if I were one of them I would demand to fly with the "public", and make sure people knew I was doing so.
