Please correct me if I am wrong.

I was wondering what the best way is to avoid NoS and patdown screening at GEG. I saw the following line in a sticky about airports with the NoS installed: "GEG - Horizon Air (Term C) SAFE - Far lane @ C/P for A & B using BKSX" but I don't really understand what it means. Could someone help me to understand it? Also, could anyone who has recently flown out of GEG share your experience and tips.

Thank you in advance for your help.
You can still receive a random pat-down, or a pat-down after failing the WTMD twice. You can reduce the odds, yet you can't eliminate them. Just saying.

Haven't been through GEG recently, but it means the Horizon checkpoint at Terminal C does not have the scanners. The far left lane at the A/B terminal has one scanner. Choose a lane to the right if you're flying out of the A/B gates (Southwest and Delta, I think are over there).

EWR Update

I searched for this yesterday and it appeared that only Terminal A at EWR in the AA lines had no scanners. Original flight was out of Terminal A, but due to weather got cancelled and I was rebooked on a flight that was departing from Terminal C... thought I would have to get groped or perhaps fight today not to get groped...

But went through C-2 and did not see any scanners set up for nearly 5 lanes of security, though did see scanners at C-1 (the MMW kind). So as of 12/1 no NOS scanners at C-2 EWR.

BDL still not using backscatters

They do have 5 of them set up and ready to go from the looks of it. Sitting in Term A now. Off to LAS through ORD.

BDL and ONT status

So is the BKSX now primary at BDL, or is it still "random" selectee or WTMD failures only (or only when a trained operator is present)? Seems like they are trying to play catchup with the rest of the "big boys" sharing those air routes.

----------

Also, anyone want in the San Bernardino area care to visit ONT to see if they have anything there? I did ONT-SJC on WN in 07 and it was a very nice little airport (I thought...). If they never bought NoS for it, it could make a nice addition to the LAX area non-NoS list.

I just noticed this. Thanks for the update. Looks like this is an operator training issue, as they just got the budget to deploy them in July. Just to nitpick a little though.. For all intents and purposes, BDL is Term A now only anyway. Term B hasn't been open for almost a year except that one night over the summer for the inbound from UK Spirit emergency landing/diversion from BOS, where thankfully, they were able to open up the IAB and call in a couple CBPs and let everyone deplane overnight.

ONT will be getting them "soon" it seems. Not sure why, since it's such a ghost town out there. There's also a little tidbit in there from the TSA Talking Head saying the scan or pat downs "should take no more than a minute."

BUR and SNA are the best alternatives to LAX, for a whole host of reasons. If you're out in the IE though (and want to admit it, that is ) neither is convenient.

At PHX (Sky Harbor, Phoenix) this morning, all scanners (backscatter) at Terminal 4 security gates (A,B,C,D) are roped off with a "closed" sign on them. It is a very light traffic morning...

Skipped it

Yesterday I was flying back from DCA and at the security check point for the USAirways terminal, they had one of the full body scanners MMW. But, they were only running one line through it, the line I was in just went through the standard metal detector.

So, I suppose, if you're at DCA, you can avoid the machine if you are careful which line you get in at the security check point. I was in the line all the way to the right, and seeing as how these machines aren't machines I'd expect them to be able move, you will probably be safe in the far right line until they buy another machine.

Seeking ORD T1 advice

I will be flying out of ORD T1 next week around 4:00 PM

I couldn't find any specific description of how the new stuff is laid out at T1.

Is there one line that is better than another to avoid being radiated?

I am a UA elite and have access to all of the security lines at T1.

My apologies if there is an existing thread on this. I searched and couldn't find anything.

Hi Guys, long time lurker, decided to register.

I am going to be flying out of JFK Terminal 1 with a 1.5 year old baby. We are very scared of the Xray machines, especially since I lived in Chernobyl Disaster area when I was a kid, and I know quite a bit about the dangers of these machines.

Either way, it is unclear if JFK Terminal 1 has Xray machines installed or not, and are there any lanes with regular metal detectors. I am really hoping there are regular Metal Screeners there.

If not, I am definitely opting out of this, but I am concerned what will happen to the baby when me and wife get the groping. I was thinking of wife holding the baby in her hands all the time, but i am not sure what the TSA will require us to do.

Thanks a lot for your advice all!

Is there a way to avoid the scanners at FCO?

BTW, at SFO International, stay to the right (though it usually doesn't open until 10AM). That lane has no NoS machines.

At SFO, at least part of the international terminal is connected to the United terminal, so you can use the United checkpoints that do not have body scanners to go through security.

How many are there at each checkpoint at T4?

AFAIK, they don't have them (any more) so avoiding them is easy.

I flew through FCO (to PMO and then to HKG) in November and no sign of NoS. And there was an announcement (discussed here in, maybe ~ September) that Italy had decided they were too invasive. +1 for the Italians.
