Is Salsa, Dip or mustard considered a liquid?
I am a big fan of Trader Joe's Corn Chile Salsa, black bean dip and Dijon Mustard. I am pretty sure that my parents will really like it too. But they are in Houston with no Trader Joe's. Was thinking of bringing them some but not if I have to pay $25 to check in a bag.

Yes to all three.
HOWEVER, if you can freeze them and get them to the checkpoint frozen you might be able to argue they are solids. Someone mentioned that worked with spaghetti sauce once. Me, I'd just ship them via USPS for $15 if they are all that :) |
Yes, they all are liquids and will get confiscated.

As said, all fall under the liquids and gels and would not be allow through if over 3.2oz. You could repackage them into small containers. That said, I have found that it is easier to ship items that are not perishable if I do not check a bag. I did that with a bunch candies once while in Seattle - instead of bringing them home I just went to the PO and tossed them in a priority mail box and off they went to AZ while I went back to SLC.

Buy your ticket on Southwest. It's easier to avoid the stupid baggage fees than to avoid TSA's stupidity.
|
Thanks. I may try and ship them instead.

@:-) I believe that at least the salsa is packaged in a glass container. If you freeze it, the liquid inside will expand and cause the glass t:eek: crack.

Which brings up an interesting question - how long before someone does something stupid with a glass container, and then TSA will prevent glass from being included in the cabin. Goodbye my monocle friends...

ANYTHING that looks good to the TSO can be considered a liquid.

A one price priority mail box from the post office is considerably less expensive than having to check a bag for salsa.
