WBI? The new radiation scanners? We didn't see those and I guess we'll have to look forward to showing up early at our home airport, SEA to allow for opting out. I didn't notice going through anything special at BWI this morning.

me (to the wtmd gatekeper): i'm wearing orthopedic shoes
tso: ok, what about your belt?
me: it never alarms
tso: c'mon in

n.b. i strip down to my jeans and t-shirt so by belt (and specifically the buckle) is clearly visible

n.b. (redux) kudos to the tso's who "handled me" as they were very professional and polite ^

I wear a nylon belt with a nylon buckle and since there is zero metal onthat belt there is no reason for them to want it removed.

I'll be spending a week in LAS in October but I am not in the least concerned about being asked to remove my belt -- as I am almost certain to lose my pants in the casinos.

Not surprising, however I think being a bit proactive and forcing contact might be helpful. Make TSA respond to your questions.

Convicts hide items in belts, shoe laces and any other place you can think of.

TSA thinks American citizens are convicts.

Otherwise why would we be subject to strip searches, invasive pat downs and the rest of the humiliating process we are put through just to pay and fly on a commercial airplane?

A boycott of the airlines would resolve this problem.

Belts in Houston

Greetings,

Having gone through the same airport hundreds of times (IAH) with the same belt that I've worn for the past 15 years, they are now making us remove our belts at Terminal C Houston (Elite side)??????

...? This is an idiotic rule, perhaps they'd like to see my tightie whities on the belt?

This has gone way too far now. The shoes were bad enough, but understandable, but removing a strip of leather that holds your pants up? It's a damn piece of dried animal only a few millimeters thick, are they going to want us to start putting our body parts on the belt........

Well, maybe the first dozen or so overweight guys going commando will stop that insanity once and for all.

Or we can at least hope.

Ooh - a belt could be used to strangle the air crew, after spraying them with water from an illicit water bottle, squirting toothpaste into their eyes and clobbering them with a 4oz deodorant.

How long before travelers just start wearing TSA approved orange jumpsuits? Maybe such travelers will be promised expedited movement through the security process.

Seriously, this is just getting so much worse and it's happening so fast.

Although I made a suggestion up thread to buy a fabric belt and sew it onto your pants, since then I read someplace, don't think it was on TS/S, that the TSA forced someone to cut their sew-in, non-removable belt off their pants.
