In the name of what?
Just flew from SYD to SFO on UA. Went through security in Sydney without taking shoes off, or belt off. There was no secondary for at the gate for the flight to SFO. So i guess my question is, why are we doing this belt off, shoes off etc at U.S. airports but not in many other airports outside the USA, does this not make the whole exercise within the USA meaningless? I know Canada follows the US proceedures but then Canada does not have the word "no" in their vocabulary all they can say is "yes" and how high do you want us to jump?

No, whatever happens at SYD does not make the whole exercise meaningless. It is meaningless on its own merits without the need for any outside reference.

Please. Theater has a purpose. TSA has none.
