UK WBI Code of Practice - consultation until 21 June
I sent a long message February 6th to various UK offices regarding the use of whole body imaging in Heathrow without an opt-out option (i.e.: if chosen, either you are peeked naked by an unseen officer, or you donŽt fly). I got no answer from most, and then left that e-mail account untouched for over a month. It so happens I got an e-mail on April 29th from their Dep. For Transport:
Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your email raising concerns about the introduction of body scanners at UK airports. Your email has been passed to the Transport Security and Contingencies Directorate to respond because we are responsible for aviation security matters. An interim code of practice has been produced following discussions with industry and other government departments for the initial deployment of body scanners. This is available on the DfT's website at: http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/security/a...ce/pdf/cop.pdf The code of practice will ensure that the implementation an application of body scanners will be proportionate to privacy rights. The Department has launched a full public consultation on the interim code of practice and will consider all representations carefully before preparing a final code of practice later in the year. The consultation can be access at the following website: http://www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/open/2010-23/ and I would urge that you make your comments known. Kindest regards IŽm going to work on mine over the weekend. |
For me, it's simple: No opt-out, no LHR.
I'm already pretty sour on the UK airports due to their propensity to have long lines and sporadic additional harassment at checkpoints and gates. Also, DfT are the assclowns who are responsible for foisting Liquid Idiocy on the rest of the world. |

Sorry for this - but I feel it is a good idea to remind you the UK is accepting opinions on their whole body scanning setup until this Monday. |
