I bet the pilot who's phone started ringing during the takeoff roll when there was a Fed on the jumpseat wished he had his phone set to vibrate.

I guess what I was after was to confirm that it was what the pax said it was. I'm thinking that it would have taken only a second and wouldn't have violated his privacy..

not to Godwin the thread, but are you sure you don't work for TSA or DHS? ;)

Yes, but the point is that there are noises and actions that people need to just ignore, because they are not dangerous.

Here is a question for you: I have had to check bags in baggage, no pax available, the bag alarmed the CTX. In side is something buzzing. No I don't go around screaming, flapping my arms after I wet my pants. I continue with the bag check. I never bother the buzzing item, which is usually a toothbrush.
After I finish the bag check I repack, leaving said buzzing item on, and send the bag on it's way. Who here would want a TSO to turn their buzzing item off? |
There was a FT thread that touched on this annual report from BHX some time back but I can't find it.

That's the first sensible thing I've heard in a long time. You go in, you do what you are supposed to do and you leave everything else as is.
(As a side note, it wouldn't kill people to learn how to pack their shavers and toothbrushes properly). |

(As a side note, it wouldn't kill people to learn how to pack their shavers and toothbrushes properly). In my experience it is more rare to see a neatly, packed bag, everything in a specific place, held down by straps. Which, I guess, is why things are accidently turned on inside the bag. I couldn't even tell you how many computers are on inside of checked luggage, for example. |

Toothbrushes get turned on in bags sort of often, surprisingly. And even more surprisingly, many, many people throw, and I do mean throw, all their stuff into the bag. Shoes, dirty underpants, toothbrush, boxed/canned food, adult things all mixed together.

Unless things are carefully strapped down or else tightly packed it's going to shift anyway.

Anyone that packs a laptop like that in a checked bag deserves to have it liberated and sold on eBay to someone that has a few brain cells. :p
I have seen how the baggage handlers toss things around. On a side note, I do not understand why people pack they way they do. I had to search a checked bag and I had the passenger present. They had their prescriptions in there. I asked if they were sure they wanted that. They said yes. I told them the bag could get lost. The passenger considered it for a minute and took them with her. |
