pr cards- please help
hello. i need some help with this. i am a canadian perminent resident with a uk passport. my pr card is out for renewall and has been for a while. will i still be able to go to cuba and get back in to canada if it dosent get to me in time for the trip. any thoughts will help.
ive been told i can obtain a travel document , but i dont know if i have to get it in cuba or can i get it in seattle and use if for my return flight home from cuba? i cant seem to get hold of anyone at the government to ask so i dont know what to do. thanks |
Is it currently expired, or will it expire when you're out of the country? Getting a travel document - which I believe you'd have to do in Cuba - is a hassle, and probably not the best solution.
You can apply for an urgent replacement PR card, but it means resubmitting your documentation and providing proof of travel. See the CIC website. |
thanks, i have already faxed them my travel documentation and they have replyed that they recieved it. im just concernec that will not get it in time, i leave in two weeks. im just wondering if the airline will let me fly to and from cuba, i dont mind dealing with the customs agents when i get back to vancouver. i think that my uk passport will do the trick but im not sure.

Um, see this thread.
UK passport holders do not require visas to visit Canada. As far as the airline is concerned, that's what you'll be doing. |
If anyone knows the answer, it would be yyzvoyageur. But my UK passport was issued in Canada, and I've often been asked for my country of residence at check-in overseas, and even for my PR card, especially if I'm flying AC.

I see PRs in the same situation on a daily basis. I don't recall the last time I saw a PR with a UK or US passport who got a PR visa counterfoil. That said, I can't guarantee the OP will not have a problem with the airline, but I'd certainly bet against any issues (a big bet).

ok thanks for all the help, unfortunatly my travel rep has told me she douts that air transat will even let me leave vancouver without my pr card because i will not have it for the return flight. so now all i need to know is if i can get the needed travel document from seattle. and use it for my cuba trip. cant get hold of anyone at the goverment to ask, this is so stupid that there is no actuall person to ask a question too.just more machines with no help.

Here's one potential problem: these counterfoils are generally issued for one entry. So, let's say you go to Seattle to get the visa. You're issued a one entry visa and proceed home. At the border the officer notices your visa and duly cancels it upon entry because it is for a single entry. Now you're back to where you started. I still don't think you'll need one. |
ah, but i can cross the border in a car without my pr card i have a few times, they dont like it but a car is not a comercial carrier. thanks for all you help you have been very informative. i will simply tell them i was shopping for the day and my card is in for renewal. thanks
