By the way, that's the town which used to have an international opera house. The audience sat in the U.S. and the stage was in Canada. I believe that the border was moved sometime in the 1970's.

Otherwise one could imagine some interesting problems with theatrical productions in which performers enter via the audience.

Several years ago a Canadian farmer who owned land on both sides of the US Canadian boarder was in the middle of a harvest and a storm was moving in. Rather than leave his harvest in the field he took it north into Canada as he'd done for decades. This time the Canadian customs people caught him, confiscated his harvest, and fined him for illegal importation of wheat. When you get into the sights of the government neither life, liberty, nor property are safe.:(

This is a border patrol issue. How is this TSA related?

Same master agency ie DHS. Destruction post haste would be beneficial to all American's. The officer in this case needs to be permanently suspended.

I agree it's a stretch, but you have to admit that the TSA treats everyone as if they're Richard Reid. Isn't that guilt by association?

Your entire Department is guilty of an abuse of the public trust. You maintain a "heightened" state of alert solely because it permits you to scare the general public into believing that it's OK to sacrifice some of our rights in exchange for the illusion of greater security.

50 years from now, people are going to shake their heads in disbelief regarding how we gave the terrorists a victory with the creation of DHS.

TSA does it all the time, so what is your problem? If you and your co-workers would stop treating all passengers like criminals the opinion might be different.

Reminds me of the Palmer Raids and McCarthyism. Times when government was able to fan the flames of paranoia and then act like a dictatorship.

The opera house is still there. It is still in operation and the border still runs down the middle of it. It also houses a library with the same black line running down the shelves.

Funny how you complain about perceived treatment, but when it suits you, you do the exact same thing.

The article by the way, after reading it again, doesn't mention CBP. It just says "the border patrol". Canadian? State Police? If it was CBP, why would the media go to the state police to ask about the arrest?

So back to my original point, what does this have to do with TSA? Or is this just another excuse to gripe over something that has nothing to do with TSA at all???

Most here will not believe it but you don't know the whole story. The gentleman in question knows full well he can not do what he did. He has been warned numerous times. The area that this happened in has three unguarded streets save cameras. It is a favorite illegal crossing point for Colombians and most recently Haitians. If you look hard enough you can find directions to these streets on the web on sites that assist illegal immigrants. Residents of the communities on both sides of the border are very aware of where the border is and what they can and can't do.

This is a situation that has been going on there for the past three years at least. If you not familiar with the area it is very easy to get turned around and accidentally cross the border. Those folks are not arrested, in most cases they are interviewed and release within 10 minutes after being given directions. The Canadian government even has gone so far as to paint very large white lines on the streets with the words Canada on one side and USA on the other.

There is another port of entry about 10 minutes west of this one called Beebe Plains. It is just as bad a configuration as the border runs right down the center yellow line of the road that is perpendicular to the border. There is about 15 houses that are in the US but the only way for the residents to leave their house is to enter Canada. Both cases are not easy for anyone residents or government to manage.
