This is just my opinion but how about letting the airlines check for tickets at the gate the way it used to be and let TSA concentrate on screening people and bags. At many airports there are certain times of the day when the checkpoints are not very busy so why not let non flying visitors through security. Many airports have a great deal of retail
and resturants that should sure use this business. Keep the ticketed only policy through security during peak and busy times which will vary by airport. |
The lane checker is a private contractor, and should only be at the Elite line to make sure qualified customers are using it. After some lobbying by me (and I'm sure others), the Elite lane for CO in T1 was moved and a checker was put there after the original checkers were let go.
Having said that, I've noticed T2 has a checker at both ends - the Elite lane, as well as the opposite lane (the "Squeeze") - what they are doing at the opposite end, I have no idea. You don't need to write a letter (which will be ignored), just ignore the checker as long as you're using the lane you're entitled to. |

I was and that's when this "person" barked at me. I know I'm a First Class passenger and a DL Platinum member. She doesn't need to verify this as well.

Voluntary. I choose not to because I know what line I belong in. I am in this line every week at FLL.
I find it funny that in all the major airports I travel to only this one seems to need someone stationed at the entrance of the passenger line when there's a HUGE SIGN stating......this line is for First Class and Premiere Elite customers only. And even the non-major airports that I transit manage to have a First Class or Premiere Elite customer line still don't have people guarding the entrance like FLL does. I guess all those vacationers don't know how to read after being on a cruise or the beach. The sunshine must too be strong for their feeble brains to function once inside an airport. |

Until they moved the line and staffed it with a guard, it was chaos complete with nasty remarks and pushing and shoving matches. IAH, EWR, LAX, and SEA all have line guards - those are my frequent airports. I'm sure others do as well. Instead of complaining, be thankful they are staffing it with someone to ensure its exclusivity. |
At PHL, I had to show my BP to get in the elite line. Then some twit said I had to check my carry on as it was too big. Technically he was correct but his power trip tude pissed me off. So I took out just enough to have it fit in the size wise. The "overflow" went in my computer bag including putting my jacket back on. I walked 10 feet and put everything back the way I had it and continued on. Then I got to TSA with some woman also with a 'tude. Both could have done thing differently and I would have been more willing to be a happier sheep.

And don't worry, I wasn't holding the line up for anyone this morning. I was all alone walking to the proper First Class passenger lane because I know how to read the signs that clearly state .....this lane is for First Class or Elite Preferred passengers.

The airline controls the lines up to the point of the TSA document checker. If you don't like the fact that the elite line is guarded, then feel free to use the regular line. I for one am glad that it is guarded. And how would the line guard know that you know where you are going just because you claim to. Don't you think people have lied before to get into the shorter line. |
