Southers withdraws nomination to lead TSA

Just breaking now from the Washington Post:

The Obama administration's choice to lead the Transportation Security Administration is withdrawing his nomination.

In a statement, Erroll Southers says he is withdrawing because his nomination has become a lightning rod for those with a political agenda.

Hopefully we can get a competent leader put in place who will focus on actually improving security instead of looking out for incompetent screeners.

I wonder if the real reason could be that he has seen what a CF the TSA is and doesn't want any part of it?

I seem to recall he brought on the "political agenda" himself. I guess it was to ask of Senators of both parties to require straight answers from Error.

...at least he didn't say he wants to spend more time with his family...

Maybe he wants time to travel.

What a shame, because it appears he already mastered the TSA mantra of blaming others rather than looking at himself.

Good riddance.

Now, now, TK, heads are starting to roll, you don't really want to be on the short list, do you?

Perhaps a new reality show is in order with Director of TSA as the final prize.:p

They had to go pretty deep in the well to find Error. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind would want the job. In DC, it's not all that big of a job -- an agency head in a relatively small (people and budget) bureau in a massive federal department. The career SESs are firmly entrenched and there are numerous turf battles and intransigence. (I just talked myself out of it -- as if I was anybody's list to begin with.)

Don't be surprised if a senior congressional staffer from one of the homeland security committees pops up -- known quantity and well aware of the issues.

Sure, I can get in and turn everything upside down, get axed and live off a fat Govt. pension. Sounds like a plan.:D

No, especially when you don't spell his name correctly.
