"La Presse reported Tuesday that body scanners are to be installed in nine Canadian airports, including Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and Halifax, to comply with new U.S. security protocols. The machines can scan through clothing."

It'll be interesting to see how the Transportation Minister spins this when the formal announcement is made this afternoon.

Thanks Cana-duh for jumping through hoops like a good dog for the USA. :td:

Canada (and the Netherlands) should have told the USA to make a whole body image of itself and shove those WBIs where the sun don't shine.

Also interesting to see if they will be "optional" like the TSA (supposedly) allows. Personally I doubt it, and most Canadians would be too meek to demand the option anyway. Sigh.

I was going to make a statement but the MMW machine was removed from the trial site (YLW) after the trial ended. I wanted to take Nude-o-scope photo prints and show it to others in line.

Not really news as this has been in the works for some time. No better opportunity to spin it for political gain, I suppose.

According to this, it will be voluntary with a choice between MMW and a physical search for those selected for secondary screening. Granted this document predates the current hysteria.

With such surrender monkey behavior from "allied" governments so much in vogue, the US could just as well demand that these "allies" have their head of state replaced by the President of the US. Governor-General of Canada might as well be Chertoff or Napolitano as they are both acting as if birds of the same feather.

What we need is a real alternative to the status quo. Hopefully by the next election someone will step forward to actually lead the Liberal Party.

I don't know about you guys but I trust CATSA way less than the TSA. The TSA is goofy for sure but CATSA reminds me of mall security guards. And now they want us to strip for them.

I doubt that party will be significantly better than the one we have in power now.

Where we have representative democracy, government foolishness is representative of the public and not likely to end merely because of a change in ruling party. This has held to be the case in the US even with the 2006 and 2008 elections and it will be the same with Canada for years to come. It's fun to watch musical chairs being played by the political parties in a representative democracy but don't count on the music and the game changing much .... if at all.

CATSA contracts their screeners from Garda and other security vendors that also maintain contracts with malls and similar facilities.

More than one way to get to Canada, of course.

Land-crossings, for the time being, will not require submittal to the nude-o-scope.
