Cargo Not Inspected

DFW NBC affiliate ran a news story tonight 10 CT saying that a report had surfaced and that only 80% of cargo loaded on passenger aircraft is inspected for explosives and such.

Not news here but another shot at TSA.

TSA would not comment on the story.

The story was the lead item on the local NBC TV news. They have not placed a print article on their website yet.

The 80% number was stated along with the old line fro TSA that all cargo loaded on narrow body aircraft is inspected. The source of the report was not stated that I heard.

Story may show up later.

This report sounds a bit like what one of our posters has mentioned in the past that was rejected by TSA. Don't know that it is but.....

Here's the story:

The lack of inspecting cargo goes back to PanAm and Lockerbie ...

So narrow bodies are at higher risk? Must mean that after all their scouting trips, even the tewwowists would rather see a CRJ disappear from the civil aviation fleet than any other aircraft. :D

I don't think it's 80% - I'd love to know where the reporter got that number. I believe it's somewhere between 5 and 10% if that....and quite often zero.

The print article differed from the broadcast report.

On the broadcast it was stated that 80% of cargo is not inspected.

TSA counters that all cargo on narrow body aircraft is inspected.

So that would mean that narrow body aircraft only carry 20% of the cargo.

Standard old excuse, its to hard, we don't have the people, ya da ya da ya da.

Perhaps if TSA used its employees in an efficinet manner they could get some real security done.

The TDC position is a total waste, the gate gropes are a waste and BDO's are a waste. That makes up a good group of people who I would think could be trained to inspect cargo.
