Dear Mr. Miller

Thank you for your electronic message of DELETED, to the
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Contact Center concerning
locking options for securing your tool chest when you are going through
security checkpoints.

If a passenger chooses not to purchase TSA-approved locks, he or
she may request to be present during the screening of their checked
baggage when going through the security checkpoint. You must make the
request to your airline when checking in. Upon completion of the
screening process, you will be able to lock your bag.

Thank you for your inquiry and I hope this information is helpful.

Sincerely yours,

Chad DELETED

The few times I travel on orders and happen to carry my duffel bag, I always put my own lock on it. Even at airports not accustomed to military luggage, it's never been an issue. Drop it off at oversize baggage, they scan it, then tell you that you are good to go.
