First they have to come up with a believable but completely fake way of testing the water so that they don't have to admit that there is not and never was a threat.

Why are you saying this wasn't a credible threat?

Because making TATP requires time and laboratory conditions you won't find on a plane and a bounce in one's step is likely to set it off if one tried to transport it to the airport.

No independent verificaion of liquid threat

That's why so many people say the threat is fictitious. Basically the TSA is saying, trust us it is a threat....

Based on what we have seen from TSA in regards to other incidents (the most recent being the mother and child) you can bet if they had real proof they would be showing it off all over the place.

Also if they were really serious about keeping potential bombs off planes laptop batteries would NOT be allowed. Personally I've carried 3 laptops on a plane without TSA batting an eye. Each one of those is a potential bomb and fairly easy to take to the lavatory to weaponize.

So why allow laptop batteries but not liquids?

Further, a video of a consultant, Sidney Alford, paid by the British and U.S. governments, setting off a liquid bomb does not constitute "real proof."

But you lost the "mouse over" text:

A laptop battery contains roughly the stored energy of a hand grenade, and if shorted it ... hey! You can't arrest me if I prove your rules inconsistent!

Darn, you guys are quick! I was going to post this just now! :)

Here is a previous one with the alt-text deleted:

The image doesn't automatically show up in my browser (Firefox) ... do I have to do something to get IMG tags to show the image?

A couple of reasons.

1. Airlines know that if they want to stay in business, that they better not get its frequent fliers mad (remember the ratio of about 30% of an average plane's load makes up about 70% of the airlines' revenue).

2. The TSA knows they can appease airport management by banning the water, thus forcing sales of the $4.00 bottle of water at Hudson News (where each airport ends up, in the long run, getting a cut of).

It's just proof positive that in the long run, capitalism has long superseded airport "security."

Check your profile options (My FlyerTalk; Edit Options on the left). Under Thread Display Options, is there a checkmark next to "Show Images"?

Yeah, that fixed it. Thanks.
