Bailing from MCI to AT&T

After getting the last of the bonus AA miles for switching to MCI for local & LD and seeing WCOM sink, I decided to bail last week to AT&T.

I went to www.att.com/onepass to get CO miles. After searching through several pages, I learned that I have to call to switch *then* enroll in att/onepass offer.

I called. After 20 minutes of conversation, I learned that I have to call a different office to switch local service.

I called the local service office. Closed @ 8 p.m. Try again tomorrow.

I called the next morning @ 8:30 a.m. from work. Half an hour later I was switched. All switch fees waived. Local service included some add-ons for free. LD was a no-fee plan.

A week later, I received my first bill. Used the account # to logon to att.com, pay my bill online with my miles-earning MC, enroll in Onepass offer (5000 miles) + online billing offer (1000 miles).

This was Friday. I'll let you know when (if) the miles post.

IN THE MEANTIME, I read an article in WSJ that I have to assertively cancel my MCI service or risk being billed. I did this via e-mail requesting a confirmation, so I have the e-mail reply stating that my service with MCI is closed and I will not be billed further.
