Missing MCI Signup Bonus

In January MCI promised me 5000 miles to my UA account so I switched. Numerous phone calls and a letter w/copy to the FCC have given me nothing. I even gave MCI the full name of the telemarketer who called. Any ideas? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Gretchen sorry to hear this. Last night I got a call from MCI offering me a deal with Delta miles. The telemarketer who called sound like a sweet little old lady and she almost had me convinced that MCI had changed for the better. But I promised myself never to sign up with them again after the last fiasco 4 years ago and I came to my senses and told her I didn't want to be switched at this time.

If it were me, I think I'd just threaten to switch if I didn't get the promised miles. But perhaps you've already told them that.

This is the reason, I prefer to sign up online. I too had problem getting promised bonus miles a few years ago. With online signup, there's less change of human errors...

Add me to the list...had a telemarketer call in early May promising 5000 miles "within a few days!" and the 1000 miles a month for siz months--11,000 it total! What I have gotten is 1000/month, and I am now told it is for 5 months, not 6. The 5000 bonus--"oh, that was an old promotion that the telemarkterer probably did not know was expires". Bull.

I signed up online at http://www.mci7.com/aadvantage After the bonus miles didn't post for several months, I sent an E-mail to MCI. This was their reply:

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Dear Darien-l,

Thank you for contacting MCI (R) e-Customer Service.

Upon reviewing your account, I found the account does not
have the proper promotional code for the 5000 bonus miles.
Unfortunately, your account does not have an active calling card. It
is necessary to have an active calling card on the account in order to
add the promotional code for the 5000 bonus miles. It is not required
that you use the calling card to receive the mileage, it is just
necessary to have the card on the account.

Your business is important to us, and MCI WorldCom appreciates that
you have chosen us as your long distance carrier. If you have any
additional questions or concerns, please visit Online Account
Manager at www.mci.com/service.

Sincerely,

Diana

The website I signed up at didn't mention anything about the necessity of having a phone card to receve the miles. It says "Just sign up for MCI 7¢ Anytime and get up to 5,000 AAdvantage miles. (1,000 miles each month for the next five months)
" The complete rules are:

<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Existing MCI customers are not eligible for this offer. Bonus
is awarded 1,000 miles after your first 30 days with MCI
and 1,000 miles per month for the next four months of service with
MCI. Please allow up to eight weeks for bonus miles to be posted to your AAdvantage account. Limit one enrollment bonus per AAdvantage member. The names on your MCI and AAdvantage accounts must match to participate in the program and earn AAdvantage miles. You must remain an MCI customer through time of fulfillment in order to receive full bonus. Enrollment in the MCI/AAdvantage program is in lieu of any other MCI bonus program or promotion. MCI reserves the right to end/amend its program with six months notice. Miles earned are subject to a U.S. Federal Excise Tax surcharge.</font>
Despire the fact that the rules were changed on me halfway through I decided to stay with MCI for now. I added a phone card to my list of services, and an MCI rep assured me that my first 1,000 bonus miles will post "within 8 weeks." Given the experience of other people here, I'm a little skeptical http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

MCI runs the best bait n' switch in the business!

Their standard operating procedure is to have a telemarkerer call and make a tempting offer. You take the bait, the account is switched over, and you call, and call, and call, and call, and--usually--give up. They have your business, and you do not have the miles you were promised.

i'm having ENORMOUS problems getting my wife's account properly credited. eight phone calls, two emails, and finally a complaint to my states public utility commission. no word yet, but i've heard you get your miles in short order once you contact the proper authorities.

in lieu of MCI try http://www.onesuite.com/ 2.9 cents/minute, NO monthly fee, AND you do NOT have to switch current carriers. just be sure to get a calling plan with MCI that does NOT have a monthly fee.
