The Gamble of a Lifetime...

I moved our second residential line to MCI, after collecting 25k on the first one. This move elicits a second 25k from MCI, I'm told, at the rate of 5k per month for the next 5 months. No "code number" required - just 25k American AAdvantage miles for switching. Super. Now here's the gamble.....I consented to have both numbers billed to me on the same invoice, charged to my mileage-earning credit card. I hesitated, especially after remembering how MCI messed up some accounts, as folks have indicated on this board. The thought of only one set of taxes and fees, rather than two, appealed to me, so here goes! Wish me luck! Question: If I have all the prayers and good wishes of the people on this board, is that enough to make this work???

I think MCI misinformed you ( big surprise). My understanding is that the fees and taxes are per line. Please let us know what happens when you get your first bill.

Oops! You might get only 1K miles for switching your 2nd line. Since MCI knows that you have two lines and will be billed to same invoice.

Some MCI CSR over promise in many cases...

Yeah, you could have the Pope in your back pocket and that still wouldn't help in your dealings with MCI. I'm still waiting for someone from MCI's legal dept (I presume) on their practices of non-disclosure as to the total amount of bonuse miles that can be earned per year.

Captain Mike....I would definitely change them back if it were me. MCI will not give you the 25K miles on the second line if you have them billed together but you will pay the taxes for both lines. Good Luck

In light of what I've read here the last few weeks, I made sure to have a separate invoice sent to my office for my 2nd home line. This was for the 'winback' 25,000 miles promotion with AA. I hope this works. Even with the separate taxes and fee for 5 months for 25,000 miles, I think it will be worth it; assuming my billing strategy works.

It should work Vindesante. Seperate billing is the key. I have seven lines total. All seperate bills. All collectilg 25K miles. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Spoke with MCI today. Rep. sounded very knowledgable (I think). Told me that combining bills DOES save money. He claimed that things like the "national access fee" and the MCI "plan fee" ($1.95/$5.00 minimum) are saved on lines after the first one when bills are combined. I have not received any bills or AA statements since I authorized this "gamble". I am still anxious about the whole thing, but was reassured somewhat after talking to the rep. today. He checked the mileage postings to my AAdvantage account, too, and those seemed correct. I'm supposed to receive 5,000 per month for 5 months, just like the arrangement recently completed on the other line. Only time will tell. In light of all the terrible customer service stories posted here, I was relieved to talk with someone (anyone!) at MCI who gave out accurate, understandable information!
