Cuzco hotel suggestions
 

Will be doing a hike to MP but need 3-4 nights in Cuzco....any thoughts?

3 nights before the hike, then one afterwards...
Would like midrange, doesn't need to be rock bottom but not "high" end either due to other group member's budget constraints....
Any thoughts about Arqueologo, Hostel Pensione Aleman, or Rumi Punku?

Few years ago I stayed at the Hotel Monasterio (may not have the exact name of the hotel right). Very nice, converted monastery I think. Reminded me of a few of the paradors in Spain. Good restaurant too.

Not sure what you're doing, but 4 nights seems like an awfully long time to spend in Cuzco.

What sort of price range are you looking for? I stayed at a reasonably nice 3 star Best Western Los Andes des Americas. Not luxury, but clean and reasonably situated.

I highly recommend the Novotel. It's a block or two from the Plaza de Armas and is built in a colonial building with an interior courtyard roofed over with glass and hot water pipes underneath the walkways, so the whole place is warm (and believe me at 3,400 m elevation, Cuzco can get very chilly). To boot, the restaurant serves good food.

Monestario mentioned in a previous post is also very nice.

Hotel Monasterio looks great! Just a little beyond our groups budget....thanks for the suggestions thus far!

I recommend the Amaru Hostal which is just minutes from the San Blas Plaza and five minutes to the Plaza des Armes. The price was $14 a night with a shared bath but worth every penny (includes a full American breakfast). Check out the central market for the best buys. It did take a day to recover from the altitude differences; I was lethargic and out of breath. Have fun.

A few days to acclimate is a good idea if you are doing the trail hike. Alt. sickness hits people differently....

I would suggest Hotel Cuzco Plaza I, I stayed here a couple of years ago and would go back. Hotel Cuzco Plaza I is located in Plazoleta Nazarenas, which is the same little plaza where the Hotel Monasterio and the Museo de Arte Precolombino are located. This hotel is right behind the cathedral in the plaza de armas. If you are looking at the cathedral you take the street on the left up a hill and there you are, so it is also very central.
It was very clean and breakfast was included. There is an atrium where guests can sit and drink tea that is provided. Also they provide a left luggage service, ie. they will keep your packs and what not if you do not want to be loaded down going to Machu Picchu.

We stayed at Torre Dorada (#1 on TripAdvisor) in November and really enjoyed it. It isn't centrally located but the staff are fantastic and they are happy to drive you into the town centre or pick you up at any time of the day. They are also great at helping you to organise excursions to make the most of your time. I recommend it.

Is the Casa San Blas near there? I heard at that hotel (Casa San Blas) it can be pretty loud at night. Did you have the same issues at Amaru?
