Transportation and mobile coverage in Peru
How's the mobile phone signal coverage in Peru, particularly in Lima and Cusco area? Will there be cellphone signals when in the mountains like Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain?
Is Uber available outside of Lima, like in Cusco and Aguas Calientes? What types of Uber cars are in Lima? Are there big cars that can ride 5 plus luggages? |

Is Uber available outside of Lima, like in Cusco and Aguas Calientes? What types of Uber cars are in Lima? Are there big cars that can ride 5 plus luggages? Uber in general has become less reliable. I wouldn't depend on Uber in Cusco. You should forget about using it in Aguas Clients as well. Drivers there have said that Uber pays too little in light of high fuel costs. In Lima, you will need Uber XL for any substantial amount of luggage. Typical Uber vehicles are small passenger cars and some of them have even less trunk space owing to LPG tanks taking up the room. Expect potentially long wait time for an XL. Plan for 20 minutes and up. In less popular areas, XLs are virtually non-existent. Overall, Uber services have declined in availability and reliability (i.e. frequent cancellations) in Lima. Still usable and preferable to regular taxis, but wait time of up to 10 minutes is quite common these days. |
Any other options besides Uber and taxis?

April 2022. Used Uber in Lima, only twice, to/from airport/Miraflores. Reliable. Otherwise I'm a walker. Cusco - Uber was not reliable. Taxis had a tourist tax. Used hotel car, that was priced in the middle for airport. Otherwise walked.
US-based AT&T was fine in Lima and Cusco, but also bought cheap SIM card. Hiked Inka Trail - no service and very pleased with that. Guessing service is available at MP, but had no interest in finding out. |
