7 museums that you should visit in Lima
7 Museums
Interesting article for those who plan to stay in Lime one or few days. IMHO, my selection from these 7 would be: The National Archaeological Museum Lima Art Museum The Museum of Santo Domingo Convent and Catacombs The Museum of Gold Additional personal tips: The Larco Herrera museum: An unforgivable omission in this list (mentioned in the comments). The National Museum, Museo de la Nación. I visited 2 years ago and it was a bit unattended, many exhibitions were closed or removed to the Archaeological museum. If it remains the same, I would by pass it. |
Nice list for me to keep in mind for a future visit. Thank you.

Thanks Villavic. I'll share this with the groups I take to Lima. And maybe I'll try to visit those on the list I haven't seen yet.

The Larco Herrera museum, if not mistaken, has a sister museum in Cusco, the Museum of Pre Columbian art. I was some reference to the former whilst in Cusco. Worth a visit if the bigger Lima one is skipped. I bought some lovely reproductions in the Cusco shop, a Chancay mask at 300soles. More expensive than other tourist shops but this was very finely done and painted, I have not seen any re-production of this quality in other shops. Happy find, tho lugging a huge ceramic mask all over the Andes and then Europe was a challenge! haha
It is a very good museum, lighting good and descriptions done well. |
