LIM customs advice 2014

Hi Peruvian forum followers

Can we have a round up of recent LIM customs experiences?

I'd like to go through with 1 laptop, 2 smartphones and 3 cameras.

  • Do I currently need to declare excess gizmos?
  • If I do need to declare, do I still need to pay duty?
  • If I do need to pay duty can I still reclaim it on the way back out?
  • If I can reclaim it on the way back out, how do I do this?

Thanks in advance

Not to worry, they have updated the rules a bit. No problem for laptop, no problem for 2 cells. The camera rules are to stop folks from bringing them in to sell, lots of people going to MP have lots of camera gear.

As long as they're not new in the shrink-wrapped box, I can't imagine you'll get a second glance. Half the group I took in May had multiple cameras and we flew through customs.

Same impression as others - I always bring both my peruvian and french cellphones when I go to Lima, and have on a few occasions brought more than one camera / laptop / hard drive, and never had any issue. I was asked several years ago about why I had two hard drives, but they were completely OK when I explained that they were personal.

There is no green/red light anymore, so all baggages go thru X Rays and only if they see something they ask you to open it. Lines are fast usually.

I think 2 liters of liquor is the limit, but last time they saw 3 wine bottles in my baggage and it was ok. I think they ask you to declare or pay just when it is something very expensive or far more over the limit.
